Why Do We Offer Non-Western Options?

There’s a lot of bias against Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and other non-Western treatments, despite their potential positive impact on women’s reproductive health. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers valuable insights and treatments for women's reproductive health, looking at not just physical symptoms but emotional and spiritual well-being. Incorporating TCM into women's healthcare can provide benefits that complement Western medical practices.
Acupuncture, which is a big part of TCM, has been shown to help regulate menstrual cycles, reduce stress, improve blood flow to reproductive organs, and support embryo implantation. Specific Chinese herbs, like Shu Di Huang (Rehmannia), are also believed to help balance hormones, support ovarian function, and improve fertility—especially for women who have a yin deficiency. Some studies even suggest that combining TCM with Western treatments can improve pregnancy success rates for women struggling with infertility. The main point is that instead of just treating symptoms, TCM focuses on the root causes of reproductive health issues, which could lead to more long-term solutions.
Despite these benefits, TCM and other non-Western treatments often face skepticism within the medical community, resulting from unfamiliarity with traditional practices, cultural differences, and a historical preference for Western medical approaches. This kind of bias can lead to useful treatments being ignored or dismissed despite proven benefits. It’s important to consider different cultural medical practices because not everyone’s body responds the same way to treatment, and different cultures have developed their own ways of healing for a reason. Including both Western and traditional treatments gives women more choices and helps create a healthcare system that respects different backgrounds and perspectives. People should have access to the care that works best for them, whether it’s Western medicine, TCM, or another non-Western treatment.
